About this book
1914 is a book by John Denton Pinkstone French, with maps. The contents list chapters on the British Expeditionary Force, the retreat from Mons, the battle of the Marne, the battle of the Aisne, and the siege and fall of Antwerp. The text says the First Expeditionary Force consisted of the First Army Corps (1st and 2nd Divisions) under Lieut.-Gen. Sir Douglas Haig and the Second Army Corps (3rd and 5th Divisions) under Lieut.-Gen. Sir James Grierson.
The text says the position of Mont Noir was vigorously defended by the Germans, but they were finally driven out by the 2nd Cavalry Division under Gough. An index lists entries for French Forces, among them early successes, losses, and the retreat from Mons.
