A Guide to the Literature of Aesthetics is an 1890 bibliography by Charles Mills Gayley (1858-1932), the Berkeley professor of English famous for his Classic Myths in English Literature, prepared with Fred Newton Scott, later founder of Michigan’s rhetoric department. The Guide maps the whole literature of beauty and criticism as it stood at the century’s end, from Plato to the new German aesthetics, with notes steering students through it.
