A Narrative of the Life of Rev. Noah Davis is the 1859 autobiography of Noah Davis (1804-1830s onward), an enslaved Virginian who became a Baptist minister and bought his own freedom and that of family members by selling this very book. Davis tells of his bondage, conversion, ministry to Black Baptists in Baltimore, and the long struggle to redeem his children from slavery dollar by dollar. It is a moving primary document of the American slave narrative tradition. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
