A Short Compendium of the Catechism for the Indians is a nineteenth-century Catholic catechism in the Ottawa (Odawa) language, prepared by the missionary Nicholas Louis Sifferath around 1869. Produced for the instruction of Native converts in the Great Lakes missions, it is a rare printed text in the Ottawa language. Such mission imprints are valued by linguists and historians of Native American languages. The book is a primary source for nineteenth-century mission history. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
