About this book
A Short History of Rhode Island is by George Washington Greene, LL.D. The contents list names, among others, a chapter headed Rhode Island Blockaded, Declaration of Independence Indorsed by the Assembly, New Troops Raised, French Alliance and Unsuccessful Attempt to Drive the British from Rhode Island. The contents list includes tea burnt at Providence, an Army of Observation formed with Nathanael Greene, commander, and the Rhode Island Navy founded.
One place would gladly have drawn Rhode Island College to itself, but Providence made the better offer and obtained the preference. Ezra Stiles is called the most learned American of his day, and Samuel Hopkins the founder of a new school of theology. A list of names with years includes, among others, Constant Taber, 1807 to 1808, Simeon Martin, 1808 to 1810, and Isaac Wilbour, 1810 to 1811.
