About this book
The discussion of centripetal forces considers bodies acted upon by powers whose strength differs from place to place and whose directions are variously inclined. The explanation identifies a power directed constantly toward one centre as the simplest case with respect to direction. An experiment with a body painted half red and half blue describes the coloured portions appearing separated when viewed through a prism.
The explanation attributes the separation to unequal refraction and says that the blue half will be refracted most. The writer introduces mathematical proportions for a fuller proof, expecting them to be comprehensible to anyone who has read Euclid’s Elements.
