About this book

Maskull travels to Tormance, a planet circling the double star Arcturus, and finds a world that keeps rearranging his body and his beliefs. New organs sprout on his forehead, each region he crosses embodies a different moral or metaphysical system, and every guide he trusts is soon exposed as a false idol. David Lindsay uses this strange pilgrimage to press one relentless question about what lies behind pleasure, will, and the illusion of the self. Ignored on release, the book later drew the admiration of C. S. Lewis and Harold Bloom, who called it a work of genius. It remains one of the odder landmarks of visionary science fiction.

About the author

David Lindsay

David Lindsay (1876-1945) was a Scottish author of philosophical fantasy who worked in near-total obscurity for most of his life. A Voyage to Arcturus, his debut, barely sold on publication but grew into a cult classic praised by C. S. Lewis and others. His later books include The Haunted Woman.
