An Account of Virtue, or Dr. Henry More’s Abridgment of Morals is an English version of the moral philosophy of Henry More (1614-1687), the English philosopher and theologian who was the leading figure of the Cambridge Platonists alongside Ralph Cudworth and Benjamin Whichcote. More taught at Christ’s College, Cambridge from 1639 until his death and produced a long series of works defending a rational Platonist Christianity against materialism, atheism, and what he saw as the excesses of Cartesian dualism. The Account of Virtue is an English abridgment of his Latin Enchiridion Ethicum and presents in compact form his system of moral philosophy, with its account of the natural light of right reason and the cultivation of virtue through habituation. The book is a useful introduction to Cambridge Platonist moral thought. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
