About this book

As a Man Thinketh is one of the original self help books, written by James Allen in 1903. Less than a hundred pages, it argues a single idea repeatedly, that your life is shaped by your thoughts. Earnest, old fashioned, often quoted. Most modern self help books are footnotes to this one.

About the author

James Allen

Worked as a private secretary in English factories, left in his late thirties to write in a cottage in Ilfracombe, and died at forty-seven having sold almost nothing. As a Man Thinketh runs to about seven thousand words and states one idea: a person is literally what they think, and circumstances grow from character rather than the reverse.
