Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb is the first volume in the Farseer series of books. Continues the story of Fitz, a royal bastard, who was trained to turn into an assassin in a kingdom full of political sabotages. This really is an excellent question and, in essence, it is a central aspect of Fitz’s story; as the illegitimate ‘Bastard’ he is struggling with fate and his developing magical abilities, relationships and true loyalties and the lingering shadows of his ‘Royal’ heritage.
