About this book

William Finnegan’s memoir opens with his family’s move to Honolulu and the shock of entering Kaimuki Intermediate School. Recalling isolation and intimidation in the classroom, he examines his youthful assumptions about the people around him. The account places his surfing life alongside the social tensions and uncertainties of growing up.
