Bear and Forbear is a boys’ story by Oliver Optic, pen name of William Taylor Adams (1822-1897), the prolific Massachusetts author of American juvenile fiction. Like his many tales for the young, it teaches pluck and good conduct through adventure. The book is a period example of nineteenth-century American boys’ fiction.
