About this book
Marjorie would rather stay comfortable in bed when a little brown Dream tells her it is time to work. Their conversation opens a children's moral tale in which a walk along a country road becomes a lesson in noticing other people's needs. A girl struggling with a basket, stones left in the road and a wagon being pulled uphill give Marjorie chances to examine what she means by helping.
Katherine M. Yates builds the story around the Dream's patient questions and Marjorie's often reluctant answers. Moving heavy stones makes her feel useful, but accepting another child's help proves harder. Later, she shares roses with people on a crowded town street. The simple encounters turn honesty, pride and kindness into practical choices. For readers interested in stories that teach through conversation, the appeal lies in watching good intentions meet the small demands of everyday life.
