About this book
The discussion of Aldous Huxley says appreciating his writing requires more background than is possessed by those who would make a cult of him. The assessment of Mr. Cooper’s two circus books calls them a permanent record of a truly American institution, while qualifying its claim of uniqueness by the writer’s own knowledge. Under the Big Top is described as presenting the circus as a whole, although five of its eleven chapters concern circus animals.
Lions ’n’ Tigers ’n’ Everything is described as being wholly about the menagerie, concentrating its subject on that part of the circus. A reviewed book describes the circumstances in which young Walker entered the Secret Service and records some of the famous cases in which he figured.
