The Church Music Question engages John Spencer Curwen (1847-1916), president of the Tonic Sol-fa College and son of the movement’s founder John Curwen, in the Victorian debate over how congregations should sing. The Curwens’ sol-fa method taught millions of British churchgoers and schoolchildren to read music cheaply, and Spencer Curwen’s writings on worship music, including his Studies in Worship Music, surveyed practice across the denominations. The pamphlet belongs to that reforming campaign. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
