About this book

'Doc.' Gordon is a book by Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman. The text says a young man started upon a walk of twenty-five miles to reach Alton when it was scarcely dawn. A passage says James walked on and reached Stanbridge about noon.

Another passage says James saw before him the figure of a girl, moving swiftly. A crow, the text says, flew with wide flaps of dark wings across the road and perched on an oak bough. A passage asks what of the woman upstairs, and moreover what of James and Clemency. Clemency retorts that she has heard Uncle Tom say that nobody can ever know.
