Aleksandra Ross’s intriguing young adult fantasy debut, “Don’t Call the Wolf,” draws inspiration from folklore from Eastern Europe. The story takes place in the Kamiena forest, where a swarm of monsters is brought in by the Golden Dragon. The youthful queen of the forest, Ren, fights these monsters.
She makes a deal with Lukasz, the sole surviving member of a valiant regiment of dragon slayers, after saving him: if he swears to fight the dragon, she will assist him in finding his missing brother. However, in this eerie and captivating story, danger lurks and promises can be easily broken.
