About this book
From October to Brest-Litovsk is presented as an authorized translation from the Russian. A section headed The Middle-Class Intellectuals in the Revolution says events move so quickly at this time that it is hard to set them down from memory even in chronological sequence. The text says the revolution grew directly out of the war, and the war became the great test for all parties and revolutionary forces.
The text says difficulties arose on the 24th at the telephone station, that the cadets took possession of the station, and that the Military Revolutionary Committee sent a detachment to the telephone station and placed two small cannons there. The sailors and Red Guards are said to have occupied the telegraph station, the post office and other institutions. A statement quoted in the text says that so far the speakers have been contending for the self-determination of the Lithuanians, Poles, Livonians, Letts, Esthonians, and other peoples, and that on all these issues they were told such self-determination is out of the question.
