Glory of Youth

Bettina Dolce is packing a trunk to leave the rooms above the sea where she nursed her mother through a last illness, in a town that never forgave that mother for marrying an Italian singer who then broke her heart. Dr. Anthony Blake, a surgeon well past his own youth, argues her out of going, and in time asks her to marry him. What he does not tell her is how long he has loved Diana Gregory, back from two years in Europe with her engagement to a German ended. Into the same summer of white lilacs, harbor dances, and yachts comes Justin Ford, a young aviator trying out a hydro-aeroplane over the water. Bailey published it in 1913, illustrated by Henry Hutt and C. S. Corson, at the height of her magazine popularity.
