About this book
Greek Tragedy is by Gilbert Norwood, professor of Greek in University College, Cardiff, first published in 1920. A transcriber's note says that the ebook uses many Greek metrical symbols and may need a font that displays them.
The text discusses Euripides at length. One passage notes witty dialogue in the play Orestes, singling out an exchange between Orestes and Menelaus, and includes a quotation from Dostoevsky about choruses. Another passage describes characters including Pylades, Tyndareus, Menelaus, Helen and Hermione. A passage on Athenian audiences and choruses mentions the choregus, Alcibiades and Demosthenes' speech against Meidias, and says that Aeschylus once narrowly escaped death over a passage thought to reveal the mysteries.
