Hawkins Electrical Guide Volume 4 continues the practical electrical engineering series by Nehemiah Hawkins, originally published in 1914. The fourth volume develops the AC electrical material from Volume 3 into more specific applications including electrical distribution systems, transmission line work, and various other dimensions of the rapidly developing American electrical infrastructure of the early twentieth century.

The volume covers practical topics including power station operation, switchboards and control equipment, electrical measurement and testing, and the various forms of industrial electrical machinery that working electricians of the period encountered. Diagrams and practical examples support the material throughout.

Nehemiah Hawkins (1845-1928) wrote the Electrical Guide series for the American electrical trade rather than for academic engineering students. The ten volumes covered the full range of practical electrical work as it existed in the years before the First World War and remained in widespread use among American electricians for several decades after the original publication.
