The title page of Heroic Romances of Ireland, Translated into English Prose and Verse, by Arthur Herbert Leahy, offers translations into English prose and verse, with preface, special introductions and notes by A. H. Leahy in two volumes. The book states that the manuscript authorities for the eleven different romances (counting as two the two versions of "Etain") are all old. The book states that seven of the manuscript authorities are either in the Leabhar na h-Uidhri, an eleventh-century manuscript, or in the Book of Leinster, a twelfth-century one.
Miss Faraday is quoted as arguing against the assumption that L.L. preserves an old version of the episode. The book includes verse in which a speaker declares that a woman shall see him, though battle-fields thicken, returning alive from the Tain Bo.
