About this book

Katharine Parr's childhood begins in a London household threatened by sweating sickness. As her father falls ill, religious teaching and her mother's service to the Queen shape the young girl's understanding of duty and loss. Alison Weir's historical novel approaches the future queen through this early family experience before her life as a royal wife.

About the author

Alison Weir - BDeBooks
Alison Weir

Alison Weir calls herself a popular historian rather than an academic one, and the description is fair: she studied history at what is now London Metropolitan University, trained as a teacher, and ran a school for children with learning difficulties from 1991 to 1997. The Six Wives of Henry VIII, published in 1991, fixed her subject for good.
