About this book

Sir Thomas Malory gathered the scattered legends of King Arthur into a single sweeping prose narrative, drawing on French and English sources to tell the whole arc from Arthur's birth to the fall of his kingdom. Here are the sword in the stone, the founding of the Round Table, Merlin's counsel, the quest for the Holy Grail, and the doomed love of Lancelot and Queen Guinevere that finally splits the fellowship apart. Written in plain, vigorous Middle English while Malory himself was imprisoned, the work became the source for nearly every later retelling of the Arthurian world. This edition presents the enduring cycle of chivalry, loyalty, and betrayal.
