About this book
Lectures on the Constitution and Laws of England is by the late Francis Stoughton Sullivan, Royal Professor of Common Law in the University of Dublin. The book is described as lectures on the constitution and laws of England, with a commentary on Magna Charta and illustrations of many of the English statutes. The second edition says Authorities are added and a Discourse is prefixed, concerning the Laws and Government of England, by Gilbert Stuart, LL. D.
The text says that at the coronation of Richard the Second, as found in Lord Coke, William Furnivall claimed to find a globe for the right hand of the king. The text offers a conjecture on when military benefices began among the Saxons, and asks what time is so probable as the days of Egbert, who had resided long in the court of Charlemagne. The text describes Germany at that time as a wild uncultivated country, divided into a great number of small cantons, separated from each other by thick forests, or impassable morasses.
