The Life and Letters of Oliver Wendell Holmes is the standard 1896 biography of the Autocrat, written by John Torrey Morse (1840-1937), the Boston man of letters who edited the American Statesmen series. Morse, a cousin and intimate of the Holmes circle, had the letters, the family memories, and the run of Boston literary society, and his two volumes fixed the record of the physician-poet’s life within two years of his death. It remains the foundation of Holmes biography. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
