Little Citizens is a 1904 collection of school stories by Myra Kelly (1875-1910), the Irish-born American teacher who drew on her years teaching immigrant children on New York’s Lower East Side. Her warm, funny tales of a young teacher and her Jewish and immigrant pupils were enormously popular, praised by Theodore Roosevelt himself. Kelly’s early death cut short a much-loved career. The stories are a tender record of the immigrant classroom. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
