About this book

'Metaphysics as a Guide to Morals' is a profound work that analyzes the relationship between religion and morals, moral philosophy, and the metaphysical systems that have supported it. Murdoch shows an ongoing debate with major writers, thinkers, and theologians from Augustine to Wittgenstein, Shakespeare to Sartre, and Plato to Derrida to sustain fresh and compelling answers to these crucial questions.

About the author

Iris Murdoch

Murdoch wrote twenty-six novels and taught philosophy at Oxford, and Metaphysics as a Guide to Morals is the long late statement of the position running underneath both.
