About this book

Mexico: A History of Its Progress and Development in One Hundred Years is by Marie Robinson Wright and opens with a portrait of General Porfirio Diaz, President of the Republic of Mexico. A chapter headed Historical Events begins with Napoleon III and Maximilian, Archduke of Austria, and the throne planned for him in Mexico.

In one passage the capital gains tramways, electric lighting and new buildings, among them the Post Office and the National Geological Institute. The same passage records the second Pan-American Conference in the City of Mexico in 1901, a case before the International Court at The Hague in 1902, and diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1902 and with Persia in 1903. Another passage says the Mixtecans had a distinct language, with a grammar published in 1593, and that Oaxaca became a federal entity on the 31st of January, 1824. A further passage says time has strengthened the claim of Morelos to the affection of the Mexican people.
