About this book
Moon Lore considers the man in the moon, whom some old authors and artists have represented as an inveterate smoker. The discussion of the lunar figure hopes that he will take a ribbon of sky-blue from the milky way and become an abstainer for example's sake.
The account attributed to Southey describes the sufferings of Hans Stade, who has been caught by the Tupinambas and expects that he is about to die. Hans Stade fixes his eyes on the moon and silently asks God for a happy termination of his sufferings. Yeppipo Wasu, described as one of the chiefs who has convoked the meeting, asks what the sufferer is looking at when he sees him gazing upwards.
