It traces his journey from his modest beginnings, his early career with the Jackson 5, to his unparalleled success as a solo artist. The book was released by Doubleday on February 1, 1988, following the launch of Jackson’s 1987 Bad album. The foreword of the book was penned by Jacqueline Onassis.
