About this book
Narrative of the Voyages Round the World, Performed by Captain James Cook is by Andrew Kippis. The dedication to the King presents a Narrative of the Life and Actions of Captain James Cook. Mr. Charles Green, a gentleman who had long been assistant to Dr. Bradley at the royal observatory at Greenwich, was united by Lieutenant Cook in conducting the astronomical part of the voyage. Observing the transit of Venus was the principal, though not the sole, object of Lieutenant Cook's voyage.
One scene has Captain Cook firing some small shot at a native who had distinguished himself by his resistance, and the native, reported dead by his countrymen, is only wounded and not in a dangerous manner. Amid the numerous testimonies of regard paid to Captain Cook's merits and memory, the important object of providing for his family is said not to be forgotten, and the lords of the Admiralty took the matter up soon after the intelligence of his unfortunate decease.
