New Songs is associated with Eva Gore-Booth (1870-1926), the Irish poet and tireless worker for women’s suffrage and trade unionism, and with the 1904 anthology of that name in which the editor George Russell, AE, presented the rising poets of the Irish revival. Gore-Booth, sister of the revolutionary Constance Markievicz, contributed lyrics in the mystical vein that runs through all her verse. Yeats addressed one of his most famous late poems to the two sisters and their Lissadell youth. The collection belongs to the morning of the Celtic Revival. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
