About this book
On Christmas Day In The Evening is by Grace S. Richmond. The Fernald family go back to the old home for Christmas every year. The text names Oliver and Edson, Ralph and Guy, Carolyn and Nan as gathered at the familiar fireside.
Nan puts a question about the old church, asking whether the bell ever rings these days or whether cobwebs have grown over the clapper. A reply says that church has not had a door open since a year ago last July, when the trouble burst out. Margaret replies that she thinks Mr. Blake is to have a part in the service. Oliver says he tacked the pulpit stair-carpet, and Ralph says he stoked those stoves.
