About this book
The introduction presents a theory of atomic structure in which a positively charged nucleus is surrounded by electrons held together by attractive forces from the nucleus. The theory assigns the electrons a total negative charge equal to the nucleus's positive charge, and assumes the nucleus holds the essential part of the atom's mass. An electron approaching the nucleus in the process described gains kinetic energy on average while the whole system loses energy, with orbits becoming smaller and more frequent.
The discussion of radiation states that Planck's theory replaces continuous energy radiation from an atomic system with distinctly separated emissions, rather than the process assumed in ordinary electrodynamics. The treatment of atoms containing very few electrons uses a plane system of rings rotating around a nucleus to explain the principles under consideration.
