About this book
Our Business Civilization, by James Truslow Adams, carries the line Some Aspects of American Culture. A chapter headed Jefferson and Hamilton Today sets Jefferson’s line that all men are created equal beside Hamilton’s remark that “The People, your People, Sir, is a great Beast.” The author says Jefferson’s whole philosophy was agrarian and asks, “How long are we to go on preaching Jefferson and practising Hamilton?”
On talk, the author says that good conversation is something quite different from obtaining verbal instruction. A chapter headed Our Dissolving Ethics speaks of the scapegoat as one of the most venerable and widespread of human institutions.
