About this book
The book is by Andrew T. Still, who is described as Discoverer of the Science of Osteopathy and President of the American School of Osteopathy. The preface says Osteopathy is only in its infancy, a great unknown sea just discovered.
Under the heading WHAT STUDIES NECESSARY, readers are told to begin with anatomy and end with anatomy, a knowledge of anatomy being all they want or need. The author says he began to treat diseases by Osteopathy as an experimenter. On the nerves, the text says that the sympathetic is the accelerator nerve of the heart, being opposed in its action by the vagus which is inhibitory, and that the ganglia might be compared to electrical transformers.
