About this book

Family divisions shape the opening of this historical novel set in Cornwall. As Joshua Poldark's health fails, he summons his more prosperous brother Charles, bringing old resentments into their conversation. Their contrasting lives, unequal inheritance and concern with local mining place the Poldark family within a community governed by property, work and social expectations.
