About this book

Émile Durkheim's "Selected Writings," which Anthony Giddens edited, is a classic compilation that summarizes Durkheim's significant contributions to sociology. This 1972 book provides insights into Durkheim's ideas on morality, the sociology of knowledge, social solidarity, and the division of labor by drawing on a wide range of his writings, some of which have never been translated. It's a crucial tool for comprehending social theory's underlying principles and Durkheim's long-lasting influence on the discipline.

About the author

Émile Durkheim

Émile Durkheim helped establish sociology as an academic discipline in France, bringing a systematic method to the study of institutions, shared beliefs, and social cohesion. Selected Writings gathers work from across his career rather than presenting a single continuous treatise.
