About this book

Karen Michelle Nutt writes paranormal romance with a heavy gothic streak, and Shattered Illusions sits comfortably in that lane. The setup involves a vampire under a curse and a woman who turns out to be the only person who can lift it. There are flashbacks to past lives, family secrets, and the kind of love-across-centuries arc that genre fans tend to enjoy.

Nutt has a backlist of similar books, so the world feels worked out rather than thin. Side characters get enough room to feel real even when they're only on the page briefly.

The writing is straightforward and the pace is steady. If you want a quick paranormal read with romance front and center and lower stakes than urban fantasy, this works. Fans of Lynsay Sands or Lara Adrian will probably feel at home.

About the author

Karen Michelle Nutt

Karen Michelle Nutt blends romance and speculative fiction, bringing supernatural uncertainty into intimate, contemporary settings. Shattered Illusions follows Brona, whose isolated cliffside home becomes disturbing when her sister disappears and apparently physical traces refuse to remain consistent.
