Souls Deep

M.L. Rhodes works the soulmates-across-lives angle with Souls Deep, a paranormal romance that hops between past lives and present-day searching. Two characters whose souls keep finding each other through history are now both alive at the same time, and neither of them remembers the other consciously.

The early chapters do a lot of the worldbuilding around the rules of how reincarnation works in this story, and Rhodes is patient with it.

The romance is the engine. The historical flashback sections give context but don’t slow down the central arc too much. Readers who like Diana Gabaldon’s time-bending romance, or who enjoy the past-life angle in shows like Cloud Atlas, will probably find this one to their taste. Lighter than either of those, but built on a similar idea.
