About this book

State of the Union Addresses, credited to James Madison, gathers addresses dated from November 29, 1809 to December 3, 1816. One address reports with deep concern that the favorable prospect has been over-clouded by a refusal of the British Government to abide by the act of its minister plenipotentiary. Another address says that France, the other belligerent, has committed trespasses on commercial rights that have long been the subject of just remonstrances.

One address says a force was called into the service of the United States from the States of Georgia and Tennessee, and describes Major-General Jackson as an officer equally distinguished for his patriotism and his military talents. Another address takes up a remodification of the judiciary establishment and an additional department in the executive branch of the Government.
