About this book
Taboo is a book by James Branch Cabell, and the book calls itself a legend retold from the Dirghic of Sævius Nicanor, with Prolegomena, Notes, and a Preliminary Memoir. The contents list, among others, entries called Memoir of Saevius Nicanor and How the Garbage-Man Came with Forks. A speaker says that after fifteen years of foiled endeavors he and his publishers had virtually decided that the printing of his books was not likely ever to come under the head of a business venture.
Horvendile, yet in bewilderment, lamented, and he fled from the man of law. Horvendile goes into an academy where the faded old books of Philistia were stored, in order to learn what manner of writing was most honored by the Philistines. The colophon says that here, rather vexatiously, the old manuscript breaks off.
