About this book
The collection brings together letters and documents relating to the shipment of tea to the American colonies in 1773 by the East India Tea Company. The title page specifies an introduction, notes and biographical notices of the Boston Tea Party by Francis S. Drake. Governor Hutchinson asserts that the news initially caused no alarm in Boston and that people welcomed the prospect of cheaper tea.
A circular letter of the Massachusetts Committee of Correspondence warns that the scheme will destroy colonial trade and increase revenue. A commercial calculation considers Bohea tea and suggests that other species might gradually be introduced with greater profit to the Company.
