The 5 Love Languages is Gary Chapman's popular book on how couples give and receive love, first published in 1992. Chapman, a marriage counsellor and pastor, observed that people tend to express love in one of five ways: words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service and physical touch. When partners speak different love languages, each may feel unloved even when the other is trying. The book explains how to identify your own love language and your partner's, and offers practical ideas for each one, together with a profile test. It is written in plain language and used by couples, counsellors and church groups.
