About this book

The Adventures of Sir Launcelot Greaves includes the author's preface and an introduction, and has chapter contents announcing the hero's first appearance. A captain describes his damaged fingers and joints through comparisons with ships, rigging, and the exertions of a crew. The captain says that his grandmother and maiden aunt kept him out of his grandfather's estate for forty years.

The prospect of a commission of lunacy raises fears of disgrace for the family of the Crowes and invalidation of the captain's settlement in favour of a young lawyer. Mr. Clarke begs the knight to divert his uncle from his purpose by argument or authority. Dolly's mistress welcomes her return and asks how Dolly discovered the place of her retreat.
