The Antichrist

Among the last things Nietzsche wrote before his breakdown, this is his fiercest assault on Christianity. He argues that the faith arose from resentment and weakness, that it inverted natural values by exalting pity and meekness, and that it set itself against life and strength at every turn. He draws a sharp line between the figure of Jesus, whom he treats almost tenderly, and the church that he says betrayed him. Furious, one-sided, and deliberately provocative, the book is less a balanced argument than a prophet’s curse, and it remains one of the most controversial texts in modern philosophy.
