The Army With Banners is a 1918 play by Charles Rann Kennedy (1871-1950), the English-born dramatist who settled in America and wrote a cycle of religious dramas for the modern stage. His The Servant in the House had been a sensation in 1908, and this wartime piece continues his method of staging spiritual conflict in contemporary dress. Kennedy wrote his plays for performance with his wife, the actress Edith Wynne Matthison. The text belongs to the earnest religious theatre of the war years.
