About this book
The Central Eskimo by Franz Boas includes a list of articles and reports on Baffin Land and Cumberland Sound from the 1880s, and a note on orthography saying that Eskimo words follow Kleinschmidt's spelling, with a table of vowels and their sounds.
A section on travel by dog sledge explains how the driver lifts a trace that trails over the snow, keeps the dogs from stepping across their traces, and puts a trace back without stopping the team. It also says sledges are not used until the ice is well covered with snow. A set of songs is printed with musical notation and titles such as Song of the Tornit, Song of the Inuit Traveling to Nettilling, Oxaitoq's Song and Utitiaq's Song.
