The Comic Latin Grammar is an 1840 parody textbook by Percival Leigh (1813-1889), one of the original staff writers of Punch. The book teaches genuine Latin grammar through absurd examples and jokes, with illustrations by his friend John Leech, the great Punch cartoonist. It was popular enough to spawn a companion Comic English Grammar the same year, and Victorian schoolboys blessed it for making the ablative bearable. The little book remains a charming specimen of early Victorian comic publishing. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
